Relationships are vitally important to our lives - we are hard wired to be connected to other people. The quality of those connections with others has a huge impact on our quality of life, for better or worse. I view our relationships through the lens of attachment theory and focus treatment on improving how people relate to one another.
I have a certificate in Emotionally-Focused Therapy for Couples and have completed post-graduate training in multiple couples therapy modalities. I also have completed training in improving attachment bonds between parents/caregivers and children.
Sexuality and LGBTQ+
The discrimination and stigma faced by many members of the LGBTQ+ community can have an impact on well being. As a competent LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, I am clinically knowledgeable of the unique challenges faced by our LGBTQ+ community and provide affirming and empowering treatment. I have completed professional post-graduate training in counseling LGBTQ+ issues, transgender-affirming counseling, play therapy with LGBTQ+ children, and sexuality counseling.
Play is the language of children. Children communicate through their play about concepts they do not yet have the vocabulary for. Children also "listen and learn" in a powerful way when engaged in play therapy. I use evidence-based play therapy techniques to connect with children, help them heal, and learn healthy behaviors that can serve them for a lifetime.
I have completed hundreds of hours of professional training in Synergetic play therapy, Adlerian play therapy, play therapy with neurodiverse children, play therapy with LGBTQ+ children, and more.
Teenagers can struggle to connect with adults at a crucial time when they also must live under tremendous pressures and challenges. The therapeutic relationship I cultivate with teens can empower teens to navigate their challenges effectively, learn new coping skills, and relate in healthy ways to friends, families, stressors, and goals.
I have completed specialized post-graduate training in adolescent therapy techniques and led counseling groups for adolescents.
